Mid 17th Century 1660s

Bodice 1660s bodice from the V&A museum. It is heavily and fully boned, taking on the functions of stays and outer garment at the same time. Bodice Close-up of the brown silk and the parchment lace, which is applied to the bodice in the very typical fashion of following the seams, as seen in numerous portraits and paintings.

Jacket Knitted silk jacket, probably Italian. They were imported into England in rectangular panels and assembled at home.
